Hello I'm Michael, an experienced software developer and CTO from England.

I've had a long career in software development and there hasn't been a day that I haven't loved it. My first attempt at coding was on a Sinclair ZX81 when I was just a wee lad. Through my school years, I migrated to the Sinclair Spectrum, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes and eventually made it to PC in college when taking Computing Science.

My first job after my student days were over was programming in assembler (x86) which I didn't think I would ever use in the real world but that particular job then migrated in to C, C++ and Pascal. I then started in the MOD working on some exciting stuff that I had to sign the official secrets act for, so I'm not sure I should even mention those! I've worked for small companies and large corporations writing in C, C++, Pascal, Java, Visual Basic (groan) and then went all in on Microsoft's .NET when C# came along. Thankfully because of my previous languages, I picked this up pretty quickly.

I started using ASP.NET in the early stages and loved how the web had evolved so we all could create applications running in the browser and expanded in the web development arena using .NET, PHP and JavaScript. I then wrote my first mobile app in .NET with C# that ran on an O2 XDA PDA that ran Windows Mobile (or WinCE as it was known then) and really started to see how this market was going to evolve. I then started my own agency specialising in Web and Mobile Development and completely fell in love with Ionic that allowed me to create mobile apps with web technologies. Since the beginning of Ionic, I have been using the platform up to this day (along with the other languages of course) building apps with .NET, Node and PHP backends while still building desktop applications in .NET.

With my business now sold, I am working in the automotive sector as a CTO, architecting and building cloud based applications, mobile apps, backend API's, microservices, cloud functions, server and desktop applications still using JavaScript, Ionic, .NET, Go and PHP. This sector is a long way behind in terms of modern technology so it's a fantastic field to be involved with in an attempt to help drive (pun intended!) it forward.
